Lady Gaga Unleashing a Fame Monster

The Problem:

How do you make an underground act from New York City named Lady Gaga explode into the pop culture mainstream?

Our Solution:

Beginning in early 2008, Gupta Media has spearheaded Lady Gaga’s online advertising campaign to target and reach her diverse, ever-growing fan base. What began as a geographically targeted, local advertising campaign went national upon the release of her debut single. With her meteoric rise to fame, Gupta has tailored its campaigns to appeal to new and existing fans by capitalizing on the success of her hit songs, popular music videos, and constantly changing looks.

This is the banner set that launched our campaign for Lady Gaga. It's amazing to think how relatively unknown she was at this point, as evidenced by the New York-centric quote. It's hard to imagine anyone knew just how big she would become at this point.
These banners were created shortly after the release of Lady Gaga's second single, "Poker Face." The imagery is taken from the cover of her debut album, The Fame, which hit stores a month earlier.
At this point Lady Gaga had released three singles, and new artwork was created to promote her fourth single, "Paparazzi." Since the previous three songs were still receiving significant airplay, we included all of them in the banners, and soon enough Gaga had the distinction of having four singles from the same album reach #1 on the Billboard Pop Charts.
In November of 2009 Lady Gaga released The Fame Monster, featuring eight new tracks. The deluxe edition featured all of the original tracks from her debut album along with an alternate cover. Artwork from both covers was incorporated into these banners, creating a sort of "good vs. evil" effect.
Lady Gaga's collaboration with Beyoncé for the single "Telephone" was promoted with an extended music video that debuted March 11, 2010 on E! News and shortly afterward online. These banners captured images from the video and launched to coincide with the online premiere.
An album featuring remixes of Lady Gaga's singles released in August of 2010. This banner set uses simple messaging and captures the look and feel of the album itself.
